CRISTIAN RIVERA FOUNDATION TO HOSTED ITS 15TH ANNUAL CELEBRITY GALA AT CIPRIANI 55 WALL STREET ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 12th, 2024
The Cristian Rivera Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (D.I.P.G), is thrilled to announce its 15th Annual Celebrity Gala. The event will be held on November 12th at 6:00 p.m. at Cipriani, 55 Wall St, New York, NY.

ABOUT JOHN “GUNGIE” RIVERA
John “Gungie” Rivera is a highly respected figure in the music and nightlife industry, known for his role as a DJ, nightclub promoter, and music executive. Growing up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, he witnessed firsthand how music brought people together. His moniker, "Gungie," became synonymous with introducing new music genres, particularly hip-hop and freestyle, to venues across New York City. Beginning his career in the late 1980s, Rivera quickly became one of the most sought-after promoters in the city's nightclub scene, and later transitioned to a successful music executive. He founded his own label, Prestigio, under Sony Discos, where he made an immediate impact, with his first artist becoming the fastest-selling independent artist in Sony Discos history to go Gold.

ABOUT THE 15TH ANNUAL CELEBRITY GALA
The Cristian Rivera Foundation 15th Annual Celebrity Gala is star-studded event to bring together celebrities and supporters in the fight against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma DIPG.
Proceeds from the event will support groundbreaking clinical trials at leading institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical College. Funds raised will also provide critical support to families affected by DIPG and raise awareness of this devastating condition.
ABOUT THE HOSTS
The gala was hosted by board members and celebrities Kenan Thompson, known for his role on Saturday Night Live; Kenan Thompson is an award-winning actor, comedian and producer best known for his work on Saturday Night Live. He returns to the iconic late-night series for his 21st season as the longest-running cast member. He is a six-time Emmy Award nominee and received two nominations in 2021 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his comedy series Kenan and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for SNL.

ABOUT DARLENE RODRIGUEZ
Darlene Rodriguez is co-anchor of Today in New York which airs weekday mornings on NBC 4 New York. She has also anchored multiple Emmy-winning broadcasts, served as a newsreader on Weekend Today and is a frequent contributor to the Today Show.
Rodriguez is involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley and is on the board of the Cristian Rivera Foundation.

ABOUT MALIK YOBA
Malik Yoba is a Hollywood veteran with over three decades of commitment to the arts, boasting over fifty film credits and more than a dozen lead roles in network and cable television series. Malik considers himself first and foremost a community and youth advocate, with over forty years of experience working with young people in schools, prisons, and community organizations worldwide. Malik has been a dedicated supporter of The Cristian Rivera Foundation for a decade and proudly serves on their board, contributing to the foundation’s mission of finding a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and supporting affected families.

ABOUT GLEYBER TORRES
Gleyber Torres is the second baseman for the New York Yankees and recipient of the Cristian Rivera Foundation Heroes Award for his unwavering generosity, passion for helping others, and selfless commitment to making a difference. Many years ago, when he met a little boy named Zach before a game in Tampa, Florida, who was battling cancer, Torres hit a home run on the first pitch of the game and kept the ball with the intention of giving it to him. Though Zach passed away two months later, Torres held on to the baseball and later gave it to Zach’s parents, a testament to his deep compassion and dedication to leaving a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others.
As the first MLB player to become a Special Olympics Global Ambassador, Torres' dedication to supporting those with disabilities is truly inspiring. He was also honored with the prestigious Thurman Munson Award in 2019, not only for his athletic achievements but also for his significant contributions to the community. Whether raising funds for the AHRC New York City Foundation or championing causes that uplift others, Torres’ actions speak volumes. His selfless dedication and role as a mentor to children and individuals of all abilities perfectly embody the qualities the Cristian Rivera Foundation seeks in its Heroes Award honorees.
The Cristian Rivera Foundation's Heroes Award was established three years ago to ensure that individuals like Torres are recognized for their outstanding dedication to others. MLB player Gio Urshela was honored in 2021, actor and producer Chazz Palminteri in 2022, and last year’s honoree, MLB player Harrison Bader, received the award for his remarkable contributions both on and off the field.
ABOUT RAFAEL AND MEILING TORO
Rafael Toro began his career in the field of public relations in 1979 as the assistant to Mayor Kevin White in Boston where he handled a variety of city campaigns, cultural programs and community activities, while serving as a liaison to the Hispanic community.
In 1985, Rafael joined Goya Foods, Inc. as Director of Public Relations where he first set out to extend Goya’s outreach and brand awareness to a variety of Latin communities including Dominican, Puerto Rican, Mexican, South and Central American.

ABOUT THE CRISTIAN RIVERA FOUNDATION
The Cristian Rivera Foundation's mission is to create a world without diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) by funding research for a cure, spreading awareness, and providing family support. After the devastating loss of his son Cristian to DIPG, John Gungie Rivera was inspired to establish the Cristian Rivera Foundation, a New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, in 2009.

Today, the foundation's funding has contributed to significant progress in the fight against DIPG., with three children responding well to clinical trials led by Dr. Mark Souweidane at Weill Cornell Medical Center. These promising outcomes offer hope to the medical community and families impacted by DIPG. Additionally, the foundation supports genetic research by Dr. Oren Becher at Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Mount Sinai Kravis Children'ss Hospital.
CRF pursues its mission through fundraising events, monthly newsletters, media outreach, and other initiatives to educate and enlighten the community about DIPG. and its devastating impact on children and families.

The foundation also serves as a vital resource, providing support, information, and financial assistance to families affected by DIPG. By working closely with these families, the foundation helps them navigate the challenges of this difficult journey, offering the tools and guidance needed to cope with this devastating disease.
